Mission Beach is a coastal town which is 14 kilometres in length and made up of four villages: at the northern end there is Bingil Bay, then Mission Beach, followed by Wongaling Beach and then South Mission Beach at the southern end. The closest town to Mission Beach is Tully, a 20 minute drive to the south, or Innisfail, a 30 minute drive to the north.
There are approximately 3,000 people living within the Mission Beach area, which is governed by the newly appointed Cassowary Coast Regional Council.
At Mission Beach, you will find a tranquil and very friendly tropical holiday township ideally suited to those who desire a true break from everyday life. Even though the community is relatively small, the area boasts a Woolworth’s Supermarket and two smaller supermarkets, a medical centre and dental surgery, chemist, service station and library. There are also a two butchers one at either end of Mission Beach and a fresh seafood outlet store, central to both ends of Mission Beach.
Within the Mission Beach Village, there are several lifestyle and casual clothes stores, a bottle shop and more than a dozen cafes and restaurants offering takeaway food, casual and fine dining. There is also a post offfice, newsagent, art galleries, hair salons and beauticians, accountants, solicitor, architects, music store and bakery.
At Wongaling Beach, Woolworths has recently opened. There is a motel/hotel adjacent to a small shopping centre along with several cafes and restaurants also offering takeway food, casual and fine dining. Within the shopping centre, there is also a butcher, video shop, newsagent, hair salon, gift shop, dress shop and casual clothes store and a gift shop.
In addition, there are two tourist information outlets, a gym, pool shop, cabinet maker, picture framer, Interior design shop, hardware and plumbing shop, tyre store, tile shop, car hire and engineering works.
Less than 5 kilometres offshore from Mission Beach, Dunk Island and Bedarra Island make up an aquatic playground that is renowned along the east coast of Queensland, Australia. The Great Barrier Reef is only 38 kilometres away making Mission Beach the closest mainland access to the Reef, just an hour or so by boat. This means more time experiencing the wonders of Queensland's Great Barrier Reef when you stay at Mission Beach.
While you are here enjoy golf, kayaking, cassowary spotting, reef and estuary fishing, rainforest hikes (you might even see our local Cassowary!), jet skiing, crocodile spotting, bird watching, market shopping, bike riding, swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving. A day trip away from Mission Beach will have you enjoying the beautiful Atherton Tablelands, historic Paronella Park, Hinchinbrook Island, Josephine Falls and so much more. For those of you with something a little more adventurous on your mind, a trip to Mission Beach wouldn't be complete without experiencing a tandem skydive or a white water rafting trip in the beautiful Tully Gorge.
